636.0. "Getting "cannot open" for every file on drive" by OTOOA::kap901.kao.dec.com::trimble () Mon Apr 28 1997 13:00

Have an NT Alpha 3.51 server running Networker Server 4.3.
Have an NT Alpha 3.51 server running Networker Client 4.3.

I am getting errors for an entire drive stating that for
every file it "cannot open". There are some files which
I could understand that are open, but there are a lot of
files which are definately not in use at the time of
backup.

The protections on the files allow administrators access.

The drive root directory has Everyone Full Control.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jason Trimble

636.1New disk?SWETSC::WESTERBACKPanta reiTue Apr 29 1997 06:197
    Don't know if this relates to your problem, but we had the same
    thing after adding a new disk to an NT 3.51 system. It seemed nsr had
    problems accessing the disk, even when Everybody had full access. We
    figured there was some mismatch because the disk wasn't fully configured
    at last boot. After a reboot everything was OK again.

636.2Our situations are relatedOTOOA::kap901.kao.dec.com::trimbleTue Apr 29 1997 11:3013
As a matter of fact, it does relate. I just added a new disk
to the system. I guess I'll try rebooting it now that the
disk is configured. I tried re-installing the Networker
client, which should have done almost the same thing but I
guess that still doesn't work.

It's hard to schedule reboot time for a system which is
used constantly though.

Thanks,

Jason

Rebooting the system fixed the problem.
