| Is it not Sunday in Hudson MA ? :-)
There is a few explanations in the Release notes but I am supporting
your query. We need more explanations.
Manu.

| The 'Machine type' field is not in the online help, either.

| These fields aren't documented because the use of these fields
may change, and the meaning of the contents, are subject to
change.

| Hmm. But the filed itself should, at least be documented, right? And
while I understand that the contents may change, shouldn't the four
values that are currently be supported be explained?
Thanks!

| Well, this is getting spooky. NetWorker support for TruCluster is so
poorly documented, it is almost invisible! Except for seeing two
cluster thingees in the Client Machine Type box in nwadmin, you'd never
know it was there. Further, I dir a DIR/TITLE=clust in this notes
file, and none of the notes talked about how to use this functionality.
Would someone be willing to dash off a couple of paragraphs, and add it
here is a reply to the UNIX cluster note?
Thanks!

628.6 | forwarded to documentation | DECWET::CARRUTHERS | Life gets easier when you realize you can't have everything. | Tue Apr 29 1997 10:44 | 4 |
| I have forwarded this string to the NetWorker documentation
team (1 person!). As plans are made for new features and
releases I promise to keep this in mind and urge
some action on the team's part.

| Thanks for doing this. I do appreciate it, as I know you are all very
busy. That said, any hints at all on how to use NetWorker's TruCluster
support? I can sorta guess what the machine types of 'Cluster Host'
and 'Cluster Service' are for. If I have nodes 'foo' and 'bar', they
offer services 'moe', 'larry' and 'curley', then I'd add five clients:
'foo' and 'bar' as 'cluster host', and 'moe', 'larry' and 'curley' as
'cluster services'. Right?
Are there any gotchas I need to know about?
Thanks!

| The Machine Type field is used by the Digital server for licensing
purposes. Unless the machine being set up as a client is an old
version, or a non-NT PC, the field is set automatically by the server.
What happens is:
The server sends a query to the client, and determines from it what type of
client it is. Currently the options are:
PC: A DOS/Windows/Win95/NT Workstation machine, requiring the DECNSR-NET-PC
license.
Workstation: This is generally the "everything else" bucket, and corresponds
to the DECNSR-NET-CLNT license.
Cluster Host: This is a system in an active ASE configuration, requiring
one of the DECNSR-CLUST-CLNTx licenses.
Cluster Service: This is a client corresponding to an ASE service, not to a
physical node. We do not charge a license for these.
Note that if you change the value of the Machine Type field, we will re-query
the client, and override your input with what the client says it is. This is
to keep customers honest about which license each client requires.
For more clusters stuff, also search for "ASE".

| Hi Kevin
Thanks very much for taking the time to write this. This is exactly
what I needed, and will save me trial-and-error time as I install.
I'll also 'dir/title=ase'; thanks for the suggestion.
