627.0. "NetWorker client for DU V4.2b install fails" by SANITY::LEMONS (And we thank you for your support.) Fri Apr 25 1997 16:12

NetWorker client for Digital UNIX V4.2b

    Hi

When I try to install this client, it fails:

    uogsrv-22 : nsr_ize -r
                    NetWorker(TM) - Release V4.2B
Copyright (c) 1990-1996, Digital Equipment Corp. All rights reserved.
This product includes software developed by the University of
    California, Berkeley and its contributors.

nsr_ize is about to remove NetWorker from machine
    `uogsrv.hlo.dec.com'.

Remove the NetWorker man pages [yes]?

Directory from which the NetWorker man pages
    should be removed [/usr/man]?
Removing NetWorker man pages from /usr/man

Man pages are not for NetWorker V4.2B! You must de-install
NetWorker using the same version of nsr_ize as was used for
            installation.

    nsr_ize: exiting...
    uogsrv-23

It works fine when I answer 'no' to the 'Remove the NetWorker man pages
    [yes]?' question.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Hi T???,

    > Man pages are not for NetWorker V4.2B! You must de-install

    > installation.

So, you had another version installed before. You should remove this
"old" version with the "nsr_ize" program of that old version. Usually,
the old version can be found in /usr/bin/nsr_ize while the new version
is located in the "decaxp" subdirectory where you down-loaded the
    product.

As the man pages can now have some new entries or have discarded
retired programs entries, it seems obvious to me that the same nsr_ize
program should be use to install and de-install a specific version.

    Manu.

Well, since I've shot myself in the foot on at least one system, where
I apparently have files from both V4 and V3 DU NetWorker clients,
what's the best way to clean up the mess? Would extracting a V3
nsr_ize, running it, extracting a V4 nsr_ize, running, be the thing to
    do?

    Thanks

627.3not sure... may have to roll up your sleevesDECWET::EVANSNSR EngineeringTue May 27 1997 09:5812
and manually delete all those files by hand. Try the V3 nsr_ize first.
then try the V4 nsr_ize, and if they do not work, you know what to do.

list (relative to /usr/man, usually):
nsrhsmck.8 nsrib.8 nsriba.8 nsrpmig.8 nsrmig.8
mminfo.8 nsrarchive.8 nwadmin.8 mmlocate.8 nsrclone.8
 nwarchive.8 mmpool.8 nsrexecd.8 nwretrieve.8 nsr_archive_request.5
 nsrinfo.8 recover.8 nsr_getdate.3 nsrmm.8 save.8 nsradmin.8 nsrretrieve.8
 savefs.8 nsralist.8 nsrwatch.8 uasm.8

NOTE: the installer person can override the default path and store these
pages anywhere, and then include them in the man path...
627.4extract nsr_ize image SANITY::LEMONSAnd we thank you for your support.Tue May 27 1997 11:407
Thanks for the suggestion. I appear to have only one system with
NetWorker Client V3.1A installed, and the nsr_ize is missing from it.
I've pulled the V3.1A kit, and untarred it. How can I extract just the
nsr_ize program from the compressed images inside the tar file?

    Thanks!

Re .3, I think I deleted all the NetWorker files in /usr/man, but I'm
still unable to nsr_ize -r, or nsr_ize -i V4.2B of the DU client.

.3> and if they do not work, you know what to do.

Actually, I don't! I don't have to rebuild the system from the group
    up, do I??

    Thanks
