Each backup volume has a NetWorker label. NetWorker reads the
label during mounts and checks if a backup volume with that
label exists in its media database. If no such volume exists
in the database then you will get "no media in index" error.

You can get errors like that if you labeled, used, then deleted
a particular volume. You can get this error if you labeled a tape
on one NetWorker server and try to use it on a 2nd NetWorker server
with out using scanner to add the volume to the media index.

619.3NSRMMD.EXE was still activeALFSS2::WHITTINGTONWhere is my StarbuckFri Apr 25 1997 08:5514
    I resolved the problem, actually the customer did.

    The reason they were getting the no media in index when trying to mount
    a volume, was because nsrmmd.exe was still running, although they
    stopped the Networker services - server,remote exec, and portmapper in
    that order. I don't know why nsrmmd was still active. They were able to
    see this process running using TLIST from the Microsoft Resource Kit.

    I talked with the Unix team, and they told me that I could run scanner
    on the tape and hopefully repopulate the index as well.
