I have never had the chance to play with such a device so I need to ask this crowd. I understand that such a device has at least two drives and one (or more) interfaces to the robot. One of our customers has the idea of segmenting and sharing a TL8xx jukebox between two or three systems running NetWorker. I understand (I might be wrong though ...) that you could physically hook up the jukebox to the various systems by attaching SCSI cables to each drive of the TL and the systems. But then I am still unsure if NetWorker could deal with such a segmented jukebox. Any idea if this is doable ? Any gotchas ? Thnx and cheers Catsup [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

It is not a supported configuration. NetWorker assumes it owns the jukebox, and for now it also assumes it is on only one system (no way to operate robotics from remote systems, there is only one interface to the robot). Are they thinking that clients can use a tape drive directly or do they really need 2 or 3 NetWorker servers?

They do want to use the different drives in the jukebox from each system as they where local drives. They want to r/w directly to the drives. They do not want to go over the network (what they could when having one NSR server owning the jukebox and they other systems being NSR clients) because they feel they do not have they neccessary network bandwidth nor want they to invest in improving their network bandwidth. The other reason they want to do this is to minimize the effect of a NSR server breakdown. Having - let's say three server sharing the jukebox and one breaks down, then the others still could do backups using the jukebox. Cheers Catsup [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

The configuration of the jukebox as detailed in .2 is not supported by NetWorker. |
