612.0. "Index filesystem full" by SWETSC::WESTERBACK (Panta rei) Wed Apr 23 1997 02:19

    I keep getting this message:

    Apr 23 06:47:51 soo-office-1.soo.dec.com: NetWorker Index: (warning)
Filesystem for index `soo-office-1.soo.dec.com' is getting full.

If I look at the index from admin GUI it says:

    soo-office-1.soo.d 84 MB 100%

Reclaim space have helped earlier, but the message comes back, and now
it seems I can't get rid of it at all. Reclaim doesn't make any
difference. What does this message really mean? Is there a limit to how
big the filesystem can be, 84 MB can't be that much, considering that the
system holds less than 10 GB in total, and we have six weeks browse and
retention period. Or is it related to the 100%?

In the filesystem that NSR is located...
(often it is under c:\win32app\nsr)
how much space is available? It isn't
clear how your 10GB is distributed, but
I'm guessing it isn't all together, eh?

Roughly how many files are on the
soo-office-1.soo.dec.com system?
How often do you do a full backups
of the system?

612.2Aha...SWETSC::WESTERBACKPanta reiThu Apr 24 1997 03:166
OK, I had a look at the C drive, and it only have 39 MB free space,
NSR have total 138 MB and index files 127 out of that. This is our
file server, and growing still, and we take full backups every night,
so it seems I should move nsr away from this disk, to one with more
free space. What needs to be done, apart from stopping nsr, moving
    files, restart nsr ...

You should not just 'move' files, you should do
a partial uninstall (so your indexes are not
removed). Then move the \nsr directory to a
place where you have enough space. Then
reinstall as though that was where you originally
had NSR (this should make the proper Registry
changes for you, esp. in the location of where
to find services).
612.4Can we pre-alocate space for the indexes ?GVPROD::MSTEINERMon Jun 02 1997 08:066
I've the very same problem as the one described in .0, but the
partition where is located \nsr still has 270MB free. Is there a way to
pre-allocate disk space for these indexes so that one does not suffer
from these error message "filesystem is getting full" ?

    Michel.

I don't know (or don't recall) that there is a way
to preallocate space... will check it out.
