605.0. "NetWorker server V4.3 for DU contain HSM support?" by SANITY::LEMONS (And we thank you for your support.) Tue Apr 22 1997 09:21

    Hi

I just saw the official NetWorker Save and Restore V4.2C for Digital
UNIX announcement, and was interested to read of its HSM support. This
is a near-term interest of mine.

Does the NetWorker Save and Restore V4.3 for Digital UNIX product,
currently in field test, contain HSM support? If not now, will it when
    it ships?

    Thanks!

V4.3 and all subsequent versions will contain the HSM module. Unfortunately
that means that all subsequent versions will also require the Kernel hooks.

Until PT-Min is released, that means users will have to apply an OS patch and
rebuild their kernel.

FYI V4.3 is only supported on DU 4.0A and above.

Thanks. And speaking of HSM, I read in the NetWorker Server for
    Digital UNIX V4.2C SPD that:

" The only HSM clients supported are DIGITAL UNIX clients and any
    other
Legato NetWorker client which is HSM compatible (such as Sun)."

Reading further, I know that only Digital UNIX V4.0+ clients are
supported. But I'm guessing that some of these (below) are not:

    o ULTRIX
    o SunOS - maybe
    o Solaris - maybe
    o OpenVMS (when it ships)
    o Windows NT

For the last two, are there any plans afoot to offer this support?

    Thanks!

Currently, the only clients that support HSM are Digital UNIX and
Solaris. There will be no ULTRIX support.

Legato will probably roll HSM support into future releases of the
client for NT and for other UNIX platforms. Some O/S support is
required, and this may delay deployment.

    Thanks, Wes? And OpenVMS?

I know that OpenVMS has hooks for HSM; there is an OpenVMS HSM product
    shipping.

    Thanks!

HSM for a NetWorker OpenVMS client would require very
substantial sales. Please remember that the upcoming
OpenVMS client is a limited one, designed to meet
critical needs. Further enhancements will depend on revenue.
