601.0. "HP C1553A supported?" by DEKVC::JAEYONGPARK () Mon Apr 21 1997 03:32

    Hi,

One of my customer want to use HP C1553A Tape driver(included
autochanger - 6 driver and SCSI type) on DECnsr.
His o/s is WNT 4.0 and he can successfully install HP DAT
on his Alpha 2100 system. But NSR can't recognize 5 more driver except
one driver, so he could backup only 1 tape. Is the C1553A supported
in NSR? Or does he buy additional s/w of NSR like autochanger option?

    Hope to reply.

    Best Regards,

Support devices are listed in the SPD (NetWorker for NT Alpha).
If the device is not listed, it might work but isn't supported.
One does need an autochanger license to use autochanger
functionality.

You say there are six tape drives (all of the same type, yes?)
or six slots? NT only needs to load one driver for multiple
tape drives of the same type. If the unit needs to move tapes
around (i.e. put tapes in drives), that entails autochanger
functionality.

    Thanks for your reply.

I checked the SPD of "Networker Save and Restore for Windows NT Alpha,
version 4.3(SPD 61.27.01)", which only includes Digital device
so I can't find the HP device. There is only one device which has six
slots. Is there any point of autochanger kit? I would like to test
    first before selling.

601.3do you have any kind of autochanger?DECWET::LENOXa bit too excitingTue Apr 22 1997 09:0919
Autochangers allow one to schedule backups without
needing operator intervention when a new tape is
needed. If tapes with recent saves on them are
left in the autochanger, it is very likely that
a recover will procede without anyone needing to
load the tape with the files on it. This type of
information is covered in the documentation. It
can be very nice to have autochanger functionality.

To test this type of functionality with any autochanger,
install the kit (see kit topic for internal users, or
get loan of products for customers). Without licenses
one has 30 days for evaluating the product with all
features turned on (including autochanger functionality),
after that one will need licenses to use NetWorker.
Internal use only licenses also documented in this notes
conference. See topics 1-100 for topics with cover
frequently asked questions.
