594.0. "old indexes on new server?" by REGENT::HUMMERS () Fri Apr 18 1997 12:42

I am replacing an old NetWorker Server (V3.0 over OSF/1 V2.0) with a newer
hardware, newer system (V3.2C) and newer NetWorker (V4.2b). I built the new
server and gradually moved over client by client until the old server is
inactive (for writes).

I would like to move the old index files over to the new system, stash them in
an alternate partition, perhaps compressed, perhaps on a WORM like device or
write-once CDrom, and yet be able to do restores using them. The tape media
is compatible.

Is any or all of this possible?
thanks

	The old index files won't help on the new server unless you
	did a simple upgrade in place. Just get a print out of all
	the old volumes showing which save set/date is on which tape.

	If you need a restore from one of these tapes on the new
	server just use scanner to get that one (or more) tapes
	into the new system. If there is some extra disk space,
	you could just use the saveset restore to get the data
	back to the spare disk without even using scanner.
