My customer NSR server failed and he needs to restore his tapes on another server. Are NSR tapes portable? How do I restore NSR tapes onto a new server wihtout the indexes? Another issue. The customer's 4 tapes got hit by relabelling of the first tape. Can he still salvaged the content of the first tape and the rest as well. Joel J.

1) You should be able to scan in and recover from any NetWorker tape on any NetWorker server which supports that type of tape device. i.e. tapes from your Digital UNIX server should be able to be read by your Solaris server providing they both have compatible versions of NetWorker installed. 2) If the tape has been relabelled, you're pretty much out of luck. You can attempt scanning in the last 3 tapes, and you'll be able to recover any saveset which started on tape 2,3, or 4. But unless you've got a tape recovery guru handy, you won't get past the end-of-tape mark that relabelling the tape puts immediately after the label. Kevin |
