585.0. "Table comparing NetWorker modules available" by SANITY::LEMONS (And we thank you for your support.) Wed Apr 16 1997 11:21

    Hi

I've been trying to understand the capabilities of the several
NetWorker Modules/Application Interfaces. For instance, SAP R/3 is
being implemented at our site. To help with the backups, we could use
either the SAP AI or the Oracle Module; what are the differences, etc.?

So, I've created a table, available at:

    	http://www-iss.hlo.dec.com/networker-module-comparison.htm

It is not yet complete, and it probably has some inaccuracies. If you
have the time or are interested, I'd appreciate your corrections or
    additions.

And if anyone in NetWorker Engineering feels it worthwhile to take this
onto their server, please do, and I'll delete my copy.

    Thanks!

585.1Geez Terry - don't you have stuff to do ??????? :-)DECWET::EVANSNSR EngineeringWed Apr 16 1997 17:0124
I saw your table, and realized it's a nice version of what Legato
has too - a Compatibility Chart (matrix) only slightly different.

I'll talk around and see what we want to do with this.
notes, commentary: nicely done. If we took it over, we'd have to drop
 DCKTO part...

DMOv2 soon out requires NSR V4.2B or later... Oracle 7.3.2.x or higher.

full's, incr's, and differentials are a function of Oracle for both
   SAP & DMO - see Oracle 8 (I'm told).

  Client Networker Programs:
-- SAP R/3 uses save, restore, mminfo

	-- DMO V1 uses savefs & save

-- DMOv2 uses save, mminfo, and nsrinfo

  Client Side Compression: SAP(yes), DMO(yes,yes)

  Parallel backup stream: SAP(yes), DMO(yes,yes)

Recover via: SAP (brrestore), DMO (via obackup script)

    Hi

Thanks for the additional information; I'll add it in.

And, yes, I do have one or two things to do :). This table was an
attempt to understand the differences between the SAP AI and the Oracle
Module; I also used it to understand how the Exchange and MSSQL Modules
were similar to each other (helps with training if I can say, "Remember
the NetWorker Exchange Module? Well, the MS SQL Module is like it
expect in these areas . . ."), and how they were similar/different to
    the Oracle Module.

And taking out the internal Tool Kit stuff if you decide to take it on
    is fine with me.

    Thanks again
