579.0. "Administrator with -x editting device and CPU at 100%" by NQOS01::alfras1_port21.alf.dec.com::Curle () Mon Apr 14 1997 16:30

I am running:
NetWorker V4.3
Alpha 4100
NT v3.51 SP 5
TL812 with 4 TZ88 tapes

When I run the NetWorker Administrator with the "-x" switch and click on
Media and Devices. I then highlight \\.\Tape1 and click on edit. If I click
on OK and the 'right-arrow' to look at the next tape the system seems to
hang. I started Performance Monitor and looked at cpu processes it was
pegged at 100% cpu time. I had the end the NetWorker Administrator task to
stop this.

I then stop and restart NetWorker service and try the basic NetWorker
Adminisitrator (without the -x) and everything works without any problem.
But I go back to the -x option and go into \\.\Tape1 press OK or the
right-arrow and then the cpu pegs at 100%.

At first I thought the problem was that the tape needed cleaning. The flag
was set to clean the tape. But I issued the command:
	nsrjb -l -f \\.\Tape1 "cleaning tape"
and tape1 was cleaned but the problem still occurred.

I can mount and unmount tapes without any problems.

Any clues?

thanks in advanced,
Allen

I fixed the problem. I was trying to run mmrecov and it had failed. Once I
reran mmrecov, stopped and restarted the NetWorker services everything is
fine now.

Thanks,
Allen
