563.0. "multiple NSR devices" by KAOFS::R_LANGE (Really?...no not really!..) Wed Apr 09 1997 12:36

I have search in various places to find and answer for a customer
who is staring to use DECNSR on their D_UNIX system. SInce, they have
3 tape drives /dev/nrmt0h, 1h, 2h. They would like to know if NSR
supports doing 'saves' to all three device at the same time. That is to
say, they would like to be able to save from say a SUNOS environment to
a particular tape device, and perhaps NT on another and A D_UNIX client
to yet another. We had no probelms creating the NSR devices, however,
save does not seem to have a switch to specify a particular device.
Hence, I guess it uses the first device created.
    ANy idea on this?

    Thanks in advance

Pools can be used to select what backups go where. Don't
include the devices in the pool definition, just make
sure the tapes are available for the desired pool on that
	device.

Server parameters can be set to control how many sessions
go to each device, check the session per device and other
	fields.

What you want to do can be accomplished with pools and groups.

First set up a group for each of the environments (SunOS, NT, DUNIX).
Then you need to create a pool for each of these groups and select
the device you would like it to go to and the group that this pool
should correspond to.

This is one way to set it up so that scheduled backups of groups go
to the appropriate device. However, this will not catch ad-hoc saves.

For more information you can look in the Networker Administrators Guide on
pages 130-153.

Hope this helps.
