561.0. "Basic NetWorker questions" by NQOS01::16.72.112.51::Curle () Tue Apr 08 1997 20:39

I have a couple of questions for clarification.

We have NetWorker V4.3 on a Alpha 4100 server.

1. We have NetWorker installed on a test server and will be moving NetWorker
to the production server next week. How question is, do we need to reinstall
each client or can we just edit the server name in the User icon properties
command line and the c:\win32app\nsr\res\services. file?

2. I need help understanding the boot strap. We currently have several
schedules and groups. For example the E-Mail has only a three day retention
policy so we created a short term pool for them which goes to the short term
clone. On the D: drive contains the user home directories and they have a
longer retention policy so they go to the long term pool and long term clone.
We also have schedules for Full on Saturday or Sunday and nonfulls the rest
of the week.

The boot strap looks like the following:
date time level ssid file record volume
04/07/97 19:00:11 9 111 63 0 JRC_Full.001
04/07/97 19:00:11 9 111 2 0 JRC_LTCL.001
04/07/97 23:20:44 9 118 7 0 JRC_LTCL.001
04/07/97 23:20:44 9 118 44 0 JRC_Nonf.001
04/08/97 1:05:13 9 121 7 0 JRC_STCL.001
04/08/97 1:05:13 9 121 22 0 JRC_Email.001
04/08/97 4:00:11 9 122 64 0 JRC_Full.001

My question is, If I have to recovery using the bootstrap, what ssid would I
use? If I had to recover the Email server, what I use ssid 121? If I had to
recover the personal shares (D:) would I use ssid 122?

(3) We will take the clone tapes off site and say after the retention policy
has passed and I need to recover a file from a clone tape. How would I
recover a file using the clone tape? Can I just mount the clone tape and in
the Administrator Save Sets dialog box pull up the information?

(4) Sync'ing the time. If we have the NetWorker server and all the clients
set the time from the NT primary domain server, will this be ok?
I was going to issue the command: NET TIME \\computername /SET

Thanks in advanced for your help,

I think you mean c:\win32app\nsr\res\servers file. Yes, this should work
fine, but you will also need to either reboot the client machine or
go to the control panel --> services and shutdown/restart the
Networker remote exec service.

The bootstrap contains all of the indexes that Networker needs to get itself
back up and running again after a disaster. You should always use the
bootstrap with the latest date.

If the retention period of the tape has passed then you will need to use
the scanner command to make Networker aware of the tape again.

As long as the Networker server and it's clients all keep the same time
there isn't anything to worry about.

Hope this helps.
