| we get the binaries from legato, but the hardcopy docs are sealed into
the CDROM packet... pretty hard to make a copy to post on the web...
I suggest your customer get the real McCoy. call us when/if there are
problems.
PS: these packages are shrink wrapped direct from Legato. Digital has an
agreement to resell them, and we support them, when customers buy them from
Digital (usually, by calling Legato).

Hi, Evans
This customer bought the product from us and had no contact with
Legato. I don't understand what does it mean when you said to get the
docs from real Mac Coy.
I don't know why this problem appear for us here in CSC only
a week ago, but the customer said that they are waiting more than six
monthes for a solution, at least a managing problem of ours.
Can't you point me a way to these docs ?
Thanks.

NetWare SFT III is a different beast. Since NetWare 4.10, it's been built
into the OS, but you need a separate license to enable it. Basically, it's a
NetWare server environment where you have two identical systems working as one.
The Primary server handles all of the accesses and keeps the Secondary server
mirrored should the primary go down. There's a lot more complexity in terms of
setup and HW, but that's the gist of it.
If you want to know more on this product, look for SFT III-related notes in
NOTED::NETWARE or go to Novell's WWW page (http://www.novell.com/)
Suffice it to say that without knowing anything about Legato's NetWare client
for SFT III, I can safely suggest that SFT III is a different NetWare
environment and would probably not behave the same as a standalone server.

I believe, Bruce is trying to tell you that the customer should be
using the shrink wrapped package binaries and documentation for
this client.
If the customer bought these from Digital and does not have them
(after 6 months?!?) then you need to help resolve that problem
through the proper channels. The NetWorker team can't help with product
delivery since we don't have extra docs or packages.

553.5 | More detail. | VAXRIO::63222::Manoel | | Thu Apr 10 1997 12:55 | 235 |
| Hi,
About the proper docs I don't know how to contact Legato about
this, while I'm here in Rio (Brazil) it might be a little complicated.
Any way I looked some configuration information in Novell web
site, and sent to the customer for him to verify some parameters to see
if some correction in any Novell parameter could solve the problem.
Just to remember the problem, after installing Client Networker
his Novell machine hangs and has to be rebboted.
He said that verified those parameters and everything seemed all
right, and sent me some configuration data.
I'll post the configuration data he sent me below just in case
some one could point me something wrong.
Thanks in advance for any help or pointer.

553.6 | some problem specifics | DECWET::CARRUTHERS | Life gets easier when you realize you can't have everything. | Thu Apr 10 1997 17:47 | 35 |
| I asked some questions of Manoel about this problem. His answers
are supplied below each question (see >>>).
1. What version of the client kit is your customer using?
There is some confusion from your notes concerning the NetWorker client
kit your customer is using. If your customer bought the client kit
from Digital, why did you need to access our ftp area for your customer?
>>>The Digital Unix system is 4.0a
The Networker Server is 4.2b
The Client Networker for Novell 4.1 is 4.1
Why I had to get the .exe file to send to the customer is a logistic
fail, best answer only my manager could give.
2. What is the exact version of Netware that your customer is running?
>>> See first answer.
3. There is usually a NSR support program on the clients which
can provide basic information for the support personnel.
This program might be called "nsrsup.bat". Please run that program
and post the output.
>>> I'll talk to the customer and verify this.
4. In the NetWorker Client Kit for Novell, there is a release
notes supplement. On the last pages of that supplement there
is a procedure for users to collect information after system
crashes for debug purposes. After the next Netware crash have
your customer follow those steps exactly.
>>> I'll talk to the customer and verify this.

----------------------------------------------
Hi,
Just to add a little bit more information.
Note 514 is another problem that happened in the same customer while
trying to install Legato's Networker Client, the difference was that at the
first time I sent to the customer a tar file, wich contents he copied via ftp
to the SFT III (Novell) machine, and then happens the other problem mentioned
in 514.
Thanks for your time.
Best regards.
