549.0. "clc311 & nsr jb_config" by SIOG::BR_MURPHY () Thu Apr 03 1997 10:27

    Hello All,

    I've just installed clc311 & nsr brx421 onto an Alphaserver 4000
    running DU3.2G. It has an HSZ50 attached with a TZ887 stacker. I've
rebuilt the kernel with an entry for tz18 with device number 144 & an
entry for mc18b with device number 145. When booting up the tz88 tape
is recognised, but the mc entry isn't listed. I then used MAKEDEV.MC
mc18b to make the device & ran the file command on it. It just shows up
as a character device. tz18 shaows as a character device tz8xx etc.

I am unable to use jb_config to initialise the jukebaox for NSR. When I
select autodetect, jb_config exits with to following message:

I didn't find any SCSI jukeboxes attached to this system. Perhaps you
haven't connected any yet. Please re-run this program when you have
connected the SCSI jukebox you want to install and rebooted your system
(if neccessary) so that it may be seen.

This has been done a number of times without success. I also tried to
run the command mcutil -I & mcutil -e. I get an error as follows:

    30397:/usr/bin/mcutil: /sbin/loader: Fatal Error: cannot map libcxx.so

I've search the system for this library file. It's not there?

Can anyone please shed some light on what's going wrong.

The TZ887 is listed as MKC200. the are no other devices taking up the
same target id, or any of the luns.

    Thanks

I forgot to say the tz887 can sucessfully be used as a loader by
Networker, and a temporary Jukebox tier 1 license has been installed,
    expiring on May 10.

For HSZ and jukebox behavior does topic 28 in
DECWET::CLC answer this for you? DECWET::CLC
is the CLC notes conference so if you have
problems with mcutil and other CLC stuff that
is the place the CLC engineer keeps her eye on.

I believe this is just what I was looking for. I've arranged to go in
next Tuesday. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks very much

549.4HSZ robot device created, Jukebox OK nowSIOG::BR_MURPHYThu Apr 10 1997 08:508
Thanks very much. The info in DECWET::CLC note 28 was just what I
needed. The tape device on the HSZ had been created & made available,
but the media changer device at lun 1 had not. We were able to create
the device on the HSZ & make it available to the ALpha Server without
even having to reboot the system. Since the /dev/mc18b device had
previously been created everything else was already set up ....
jb_config worked a dream. System now running NSR backup perfectly
