494.0. "TZ877 X Juke-Box ??" by VAXRIO::63222::Manoel () Fri Mar 14 1997 15:49

	Hi, folks.

	I'm trying to help one of our field engeneers to solve some
pending issues in a very important customer, it happens to be our
National Institute of Patents.
	Vendor people probably sold a wrong tape device, but I just want
to be absolutely sure that there is no work around.
	They have two Alphas 2100 with Digital Unix V4.0a configured in a
cluster, sharing two Storage Works, and each of it has one TZ877.
	For now we installed Networker V4.2b in one of these machines.
	They were told that they would be able to use TZ877 devices as
Juke Box, is that possible ?
	One other problem that arises after the installation seemed to be
some kind of configuration problem, but we could't find out what it would
be, so if someone knows anything about, it would be very helpfull.
	While doing a backup some times appears the error message below:
*************************************************************************
# savegroup "teste"
 3/14/97 17:31:02 savegroup: cmd 'savefs -s kerigma.inpi.gov.br -g teste

	Thanks in advance for any help.
	Regards.

494.1do you have the documentation and spd?DECWET::LENOXBeep, beep!Fri Mar 14 1997 16:0511
Topic 2 lists how to use this conference, topic 41 some troubleshooting
guidelines (what documentation to check, official problem reporting, etc).

Various topics list cluster, licensing, jukebox, other tips and information.
Clusters are not trivial for NSR clients, see the notes on licensing.

The SPD lists what is needed for support of jukeboxes (specific licenses).

The TZ877 works as a jukebox or loader with 4.2b, use as a loader or
jukebox requires a license.

A few things to check:

  Check the permissions on the savefs command. ls -l
  /usr/bin/savefs should show a link. ls -l <whatever the link
  points to>. That file should have the suid bit set.

  Make sure that the file /nsr/res/servers has the name of the
  NetWorker server machine in it. If there are two leading
  blanks, remove them.

  Make sure the client system knows about the IP address of the
  server.

For more diagnostic information, you can try

	savegroup -vvv "teste"

494.3It is working now.VAXRIO::63222::ManoelThu Mar 20 1997 15:1623
	Ok, it is working now.
	1) From HSZ40 side I had to create the Robot unit, people before
me had created only the tape. ( see CLC conf. note 28)
	2) Then from Digital Unix side I had to create the special device
for the robot, with ./MAKEDEV.MC mc16b command ( see also CLC conf. note
28)
	3) Run #jb_config command to associate the mc16b with the nrmt3h,
because nrmt3h was built over tz8 at scsi2 target 0 lun 0 witch is the
tape in HSZ40.

	All this is about to prepare the TZ877 unit to work as a Jukebox,
after these procedures the networker software showed the jukebox device.

	That error message about "permission denied", happened even while
trying a backup to the local tape, but it just doesn't happen any more,
and those verifications in .2 were done but everything was fine.

	Hope this can shed some light to someone facing the same problem.
