config: AlphaServer 2100a Digital Unix V3.2d-2 NetWorker Server V4.2a (patch3 only, patch10 not yet inst.) TL810 (4xTZ87 fw: V6.0) /dev/mc40 /dev/nrmt1h-4h Due to IO errors on /dev/nrmt2h customer disabled this device within NSR device resource (enabled: No) while no backup session were ongoing. For some unknown reason the jukebox resource changed the order of the device attribute from /dev/nrmt1h /dev/nrmt2h /dev/nrmt3h /dev/nrmt4h to = = = /dev/nrmt1h /dev/nrmt3h /dev/nrmt4h /dev/nrmt2h This caused all succeeding backups to fail because the cartridges were loaded into the wrong drives. Also mounting a certain NSRvolume into a particular (nwadmin>highlighted) device moved the TZ87 cartridge into the wrong drive. instructed to mount NSRvolume in nrmt1h ok instructed to mount NSRvolume in nrmt2h cartridge got loaded into nrmt3h instructed to mount NSRvolume in nrmt3h cartridge got loaded into nrmt4h instructed to mount NSRvolume in nrmt4h cartridge got loaded into nrmt2h also while NetWorker was active the same behaviour with tar. Shutting down NetWorker cleared the confusion for tar(1). NetWorker regained proper control of the jukebox after we corrected the order of the devices back to normal (device: nrmt1h 2h 3h 4h) and re- enabling nrmt2h it. Is it supported to disable a drive of a multi tape drive jukebox? Should this work, if properly configured? We dont have such device to test w/. thanks in advance for any suggestions Reinhold CSC Muc

Yes is is fully supported to operate a jukebox will one or more of the devices disabled. I know of no possible way that the order of the devices in the jukebox resource could change without somebody editing the file. The enabled/disabled resource is not even in the same resource file, it's in nsr.res. The jukebox definition is in nsrjb.res. This sounds like somebody was trying to 'fix' things by hand. |
