479.0. "BusinessSuite Product Line" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Richard Allen) Wed Mar 12 1997 09:35

Hello,

I have a customer requiring BusinessSuite Module for:

 o Microsoft Exchange Server
 o Microsoft SQL Server
 o Oracle Server

...for both Intel and Alpha Windows NT clients.

Will DIGITAL be able to provide the software for both platforms or Alphas
only. According to Legato all these
products are available now but their home page does not list Windows NT Alpha
or DIGITAL UNIX.
I assume that's because we only want to sell the Alpha versions and leave
Legato to sell the Intel versions. Can you confirm this?

I'd appreciate any information you have on the above (availability dates, part
numbers etc)

Many thanks,

Richard

Digital does not call their products by the BusinessSuite name.
Digital will be releasing the NT ALpha Exchange and SQL
pieces in the near (month) future, the SPD # is 55.04.XX.

We have sold Legato client pieces in the past, so I don't
know the status of that (will be forwarded to PM).

If you want something for NT Alpha and Oracle, you will need to
speak to the product manager since we currently do not have
schedules to release the alpha equivalent of the oracle module.

The PM says Digital will be selling some of the BusinessSuite
products from Legato, definitely the SQL and Exchange pieces.

As we receive materials from Legato, we post them for internal use.
Since these modules were just released, I expect we'll see them before
    too long (April?).

I'm sorry, I've been really swamped. I was going to post
the kits we had (which were custom kits, not from normal
manufacturing). They haven't sent us any other ones, as
far as I know.

The other constraint was making sure there was enough
space on the ftp system, there wasn't when I initially was
going to do this....

I have found out that the answer I got from the PM
(given in .2) is missing something important... that in
the future* Digital will be selling the intel products
but doesn't now. Which explains why we haven't gotten
a proper release of the product and unfortunately
means we won't be putting the intel bits on the
internal network until we resell those kits.

*The PM doesn't know exactly when this will be
but I think we'll at least know when in a few months,
i.e. I don't think it will be before Q4CY97, but I hope
it is by Q1CY98.

Okay, I guess we'll have to go buy them.
479.11Do we know if internal use will be free?16.136.16.106::CorbishleyDavid CorbishleyFri Jun 06 1997 08:278
I've been reading this stream of notes about Digital selling the Legato's
Intel version in the near future. I'm not sure we can make the jump from
that to internal use will be free. Currently we buy from Legato for
internal use at an OEM discount.

It might just mean free copies for demo purposes.

In the past our contract with Legato has been such
that when we are selling the client pieces, they are
available for Digital internal use. It is fairly normal
in our contracts, the PM didn't seem to think it would
be any different for the future.
