405.0. "nsrjb -w on TL812 NSR 4.2A ?" by YORIC::HARRISR () Thu Feb 13 1997 23:34
Hello,
A customer of mine has just implemented a TL812 / NSR 4.2A solution
on Digital Unix 3.2G.
To meet the backup policy requirements they are required to
remove the nightly backup tapes and send them offsite the
following morning. I advised them verbally that they should be
able to write a cron job to unload the four TZ88's to the
LOAD/UNLOAD hopper using "nsrjb -w ..."
They have rung back and said the "nsrjb -w AFZ206" will withdraw
the fisrt tape but any further commands complain that the
destination resource is full. Any "nsrjb -w -D x AFZ207"
where x has been 0,1,2, 49,50,51,52 fails with the "-D"
flag being invalid/set wrong.
I would have thought that the destination -D could be set to
0-3 for the 4 UNLOAD/LOAD bins so that all four tapes could
be removed automagically?
Likewise can the withdraw command be issued with a -f and specify
a /dev/rmt?h device, my NSR system is 3.2 and it does not list
-f as an option with -w, however I vaguely thought V4.2A did?
V3.2 man entry...
nsrjb -w [ -j name ] [ -v ] [ -S slots ] [ -D port ] [ volume name]
Many Thanks

One must specify the target port (-D) destination for each
withdraw (-w) command. It won't take a range.
My 4.2A nsrjb command shows (don't see a -f):
nsrjb -w [ -j name ] [ -v ] [ -S slot ] [ -P port ] [ volume name ]

| The V3.2 man page was in error. The command was changed
during development for Legato compatibility to use the
-P flag for the port address. We missed fixing the man page.
They will need to use individual commands specifing each port in
sequence, one per tape.
The -S command does take a range but this does not work with
the TL810 since it does not have an output stacker like the
TL820.
Tapes can not be moved from the drive to the I/O ports by
NetWorker, they must be unloaded from the drive into a storage
slot and then exported.
