392.0. " when recycling occurs in a pool ?" by EVTAI1::POUSSARD () Fri Feb 07 1997 06:31
Hi,
I would know understand the exact mechanism of recycling.
A customer has a lot of tapes in recycle state ( for example A.00,
A.01 ) but being afraid that NSR doesn't reuse those tapes, he systematically
label new tapes belonging to this pool and load them in the Jukebox ( for
example A.05, A.06 )
So , when a schedule save occurs, NSR see that there is new label
belonging to the pool which are available, so don't recycle old tapes
belonging to this pool which are in recycle state, since new
labelled tapes are available.
How does NSR reacts ??
Does it scan the pool to find the first tape available, ( for
example in recycle state, or does it use just news label tapes ?? Does NSR
recycle tapes only when no new labelled tape are available for the pool ??
Thanks for your answer
Gilles.

| Yes, NetWorker will only recycle a tape if there are
no writable tapes available. This keeps the data
available for use until it has to be deleted.
