386.0. "Dedicated data and commands TCP-Port for NSR" by COL01::LOPEZ (Arturo Lopez drinks Klsch at Cologne) Thu Feb 06 1997 04:46

I installed the nsr client on a WEB Server, wich is outside a Router with packet
filters.

The problem I have with the backup, is that the client and the server
communicate each other with many different TCP-Ports. The parallelism eas 4.

How can I force networker to alwas use the same data and commands ports.

Right now, you cannot.
NetWorker attempts to find an unused port in the priveleged range,
and then registers that with the portmapper. NetWorker does not have
a recognized, well-known port number to use.

If we locked it down without that, we run the risk of finding that some
other application has used the port, and we cannot start up.

Nonetheless, I will present the request to Legato, since they own the
protocols here, and see what they think.
