I was 'playing' around with pools on my jukebox, and I amd getting a media alert event: backup to pool 'Full' waiting for 2 writable backup tapes' message in my message gui. What would cause this? My pool definition for Full is = Enabled -yes Pool type - Backup Archive only - no Label template - Full Groups - NT levels - full devices - \\.\Tape0 store index entries - yes auto media verify - yes If I try to change any of these settings I get a message from Administrator - Cannot create or modify pools while server is busy. Any help would be appreciated Ed Whittington NT/Backoffice

If something in a savegroup match the pool's specifications, that is when one gets requests for tapes in the pool to be mounted. What kind of saves are running (group NT should be running)? What is the schedule they are using (should be full for the day that the save started)? It should be asking for 2 devices to be mounted if you have x as the number of active devices and x-2 devices with tapes. It should use \\.\Tape0, but either \\.\Tape0 is already in use, or you don't have a tape with space in pool Full. The server is busy... you can't modify something while the server is using the definitions on what you're trying to modify. Try modifying a jukebox resource during a save which uses the resource, same thing happens. So does this match with what is happening? Only you can say, but you haven't. If I can guess this much, so can you. If something is wrong, you need to state what it is. Sounds like a perfectly normal state that one could get oneself into, although it would be nice if the server could catch that only one tape could satisfy the request. Pools are very tricky and I don't expect that I will always get them right. Knowing what else is happening on the system is critical to knowing if there is a problem. | |||||
381.2 | Reboot cleared it up | ALFSS2::WHITTINGTON | Plug & Plague | Tue Feb 04 1997 09:43 | 7 |
Well, I rebooted the server and the messages cleared up and I am back in business as far as backing up again. I looked like the group NT was not finished running for whatever reason. Thanks for the quick response..... Ed |
