Hi there,
could someone give me some advise on what's going on here??
A customer is running dUNIX 3.2D-1, ASE 1.3 and NetWorker 3.2A.
On one of the ASE members (chopin), NetWorker is *always* performing full
backup on root-directory, when it should do it once a week and then do
incremental just as the other ASE member (schubert) and the two ASE
Services (ocprod and ocstat).
First I thought that this was a license issue, but after installing the proper
licenses and re-installation of NetWorker, the problem persisted...
One thing we noticed was a funny output from mminfo. It shows that on ASE
Service, ocstat, there is a / directory backed up!!!! Furthermore, the root
directory should be backed up on chopin, but it doesn't show up in mminfo
output.....
According to nsr.res, NetWorker should backup:
/syb2_backup, /statprog, /usr/users_filesys, /mail_usr and
/mail_var
on ASE service ocstat.
How could this be possible? Where could this mismatch come from???

First, let me thank you for providing a very complete description
of the problem with a large amount of supporting information.
I believe that the problem is the one service having a mountpoint
of "/".
The data which will help me is from asemgr.
If you could send the results of:
# asemgr -d -v ocprod
# asemgr -d -v ocstat
That will help me to know how the ASE services are defined.

| Hakan,
This is not a simple case of user-error.
It appears as if, for some reason, NetWorker is recording
the index for chopin's root partition under the ocstat service.
Thus, when it looks for instances of "/" for client chopin, there are
none, so it does a full.
What I need to do is to figure out what is causing NetWorker to decide
that "/" is part of the ocstat service. That will take some thought, and
possibly some further diagnosis on your part.
Can you tell me if ocstat was hosted from chopin at the time of
the backup?
Also, what, if any, patches have you applied to the NetWorker 3.2A kit?

With NetWorker V3.2 or V3.2A, if an ASE/cluster host is a NetWorker
client, and if it has more than one network interface, and if a
non-primary (that is, other than that associated with `hostname`)
interface is used for the NetWorker access, the client code will not
function correctly. Specifically, when configuring such a client,
the client will report itself as a "cluster service" rather than as
a "cluster host". This will cause subsequent saves on the host system
to fail.

and thanx for your reply.
The ASE members have only *one* network interface each. The README file for
nsrv32a-001 mentions that this patch is applicable if there is more then one
network interface.
We *will* install the patch though.....and hopefully it handles our problem.

we have now installed patch nsrv32a-001 as Wes suggested.
Sorry to say - the problem is still there...:-(
A colleague installed the patch and then configured a new group to make an
archive backup of the systems, and here is the result.
Bottom line is: The Cluster Service, ocstat, still "thinks he owns" chopins /
(root directory).
Mail and 'savegroup' output looks OK, but look at the output from mminfo!!!
