hi we saw (without details) a configuration proposed by Storagetek and Legato what made me wondering : NSR serverA connected to robot TL812 serving a few clients SAP/UNIX systemB also connected to the same robot 1. could it be that server B is also an NSR server sharing the same robot, i never heard about this 2. perhaps they would just use the robot for backup from within SAp but sharing this robot seams asking for management problems Any comments ? regina

all the typical ones. your instincts are correct: 2 servers trying to drive the same robot could potentially "drive it crazy". Conflicts will occur (not could, will). It would be *very helpful* to get specifics of who, what, when, where: which customer, who in Legato, so we might be pro-active on this, if required. Who knows, Legato may have something we need to know about so we can do it too...

.1 is correct if you are proposing a typical library with relatively unsophisticated robotics. However, if Legato and STK are proposing one of the ACSLS (Automated Cartridge Storage Library Subsystem) silos, then this should work fine. The ACSLS has a silo control processor that manages the silo, accepts silo commands from multiple hosts, and keeps track of which cartridges "belong" to which host. However, Digital doesn't support this. Wes

If you saw a slide on this, as opposed to actual demonstration, it was probably with the use of the OpenVault software proposed from SGI. |
