354.0. "Moving a client to new server" by SWETSC::WESTERBACK (Panta rei) Tue Jan 28 1997 03:28
I had nsr installed on my NT workstation earlier, and backed it up
to a Unix server. When I now updated nsr, and wanted to back it up
to a new NT server instead, it didn't work at first, got an error
message in the NT server. Found out there's a file \res\servers
with the name of the old server, and changed this to the new one.
Now the backup works, but when I start Networker admin I always
start with the old server, and have to do a Change server, and if I try
to use Networker user it just says trying to connect to <oldserver>,
then <my-workstation> is not a client of <oldserver>, and then the user
screen goes away. So I can't even try a restore... How do I get rid of
the old server completely, and start with the new server when firing up
Networker?
Rgds,
Hans

Did you modify the servers file but not stop/restart the services?
(in this case NetWorker Remote Exec Service)
or
Did you modify the winadmin & winworkr to use -s when starting?
(see properties).

>Edit the icon properties, add a "-s <server name>" to the command line.

354.3 | Thanks | SWETSC::WESTERBACK | Panta rei | Wed Jan 29 1997 02:58 | 7 |
| OK now. I had looked in 4.2 Release notes, where Servers file was not
mentioned. Found it in 4.3 version. Then I had missed the icon
properties... I had only printed out Installation and Admin Guide,
thought I didn't need User Guide...;-)
Thanks,
Hans
