Hi, folks. I'm reading the Networker Administrator's Guide, to answer a customer question, becouse I'm not used to NSR. Until now I was not able to be sure about the answer. He asked if it is possible to do a backup from some files in a NSR server machine in a local tape from a client NSR machine. Once it states that you need to mount and label the tape before to start any backup operation, I think that one will not be able to mount a tape in a client machine, is that correct ? Thanks in advance for any clarification. Regards. MFAN(MCS/DEC-Rio)

A user on a client system can administrate a remote server system if the account they use on the client is configure to administrate the server. Administrators can mount tapes, among other things. Does that answer your question?

A NetWorker client sends it backups to a tape connected to a NetWorker Server. In the diagram below, Server A can backup Client B to tape A, but not to tape B connected to the client system. tape A -- NetWorker Server A -- NetWorker Client B -- tape B The ability for Server A to backup Client B to tape B is an enhancement that has been requested many times. Maybe that answers your question. Wes
