49.0. "PATHWORKS V6 training video's" by UTRTSC::SWEEP (I want a lolly...) Mon Feb 10 1997 10:58

    We Would Like To Hear From You.
    ===============================
    PATHWORKS V6 Video sessions (preparation)
    -----------------------------------------

    Again the UTO CSC and UTO ENG and the STN are again planning
    to make video sessions for V6. The titel of the series will
    be:

    		MECHANISMS and FLOWS

    In contrast to the V5 ARCHITECTURE video's we have learned
    that it could be more useful if we concentrated on bringing
    such complex topics by addressing it the way that you USE
    PATHWORKS. In simple words:
    - First describe some mechanisms that are required to under-
      stand the video session, and then describe a pratical use
      of the product, like a NET LOGON, or PATHWORKS startup etc

    What I would like you to do is writeup what topics you would
    us to discuss. Also you culd provide us with input on how we
    could improve the V5 video sessions even more. Anything.....
    		LET US KNOW

    And we'll see what we can do.

    In reply to Paul Nunez request in 1 of the prev. notes:

    Yes we will use the PWRK$SDA and the PWRK$TRC (tracing)
    tools constantly in explaining the topics and discussing
    the server internals and how the field can use them.

    Also if the SMB generator can be made available we will
    discuss that one as well.

    Don't be shy guys/galls. Its for your benefit and you
    don't even have to do anything for it................

    The most difficult area in v5 to troubleshoot is NETLOGON/joining a
    domain/changing domain roles/UAS replication stuff. I see the same
    being true for v6. So anything you can deliver to help troubleshoot
    NETLOGON, SAM replication, etc, will help.

    The other pisser is processes stuck in various states - LEF or RWAST
    being the worse. Don't know if you can help much here, though.

    Another separate topic could be troubleshooting license registrar
    problems.

    .3

    LEF, RWAST etc... is easy but you require VMS internal knowledge
    and VMS listings.

    But we can try to do a life case...
49.7What about tuning sessions ?EVTAI1::10dhcp40.evt.DEC.COM::gautierWed Feb 19 1997 17:5116
Hi,

    One thing that's not been covered in V5 session and that would be very
nice to see in new sessions is the tuning part. For example, how to
determine the most appropriate size for the cache, how to the client
sessions are spread over the multiple lmsvr processes, how many connection
one lmsrv process must handle to be the most efficient, etc.

   Other topics that would be useful for us are :
	- Pathworks V6 cluster mechanism.
	- The new licencing mechanism.

Hope to see you soon,
Didier

    One maybe since v6 is supposed to be nt there must some things that are
    not there or work in a different manner.License mechanism explained,
    broadcast from servers.indepth training in any unsupported tools
    that come with pathworks.
