48.0. "Windows 3.11 and EMPTY username (Net session)" by UTRTSC::BAKKER (Running arround in circles) Mon Feb 10 1997 10:48

    Hi,

We have seen a serious problem with Windows 3.11 and Office 6.0 and
    higher.
When you write to a share using one of the products of office then
after writing it is impossible to disconnect properly the share.
You can issue the use/d command on the client and it will record the
fact that the share is disconnected (issue another use command) but the
    share is still connected.

Normally this is not a big issue BUT if you want to log off from the
network and log on again using another username then you will keep the
credentials of the original user and you will see an EMPTY session.
This is a session without a username.

We have seen this problem only with 3.11 redir (VREDIR) and only to a
    pathworks server.

We are going to escallate this to MicroSoft.

    regards,
    	Paul Bakker

I think that this is a known problem that is due to be fixed in V50E-ECO1. I
also beleive that there is a patch available for it. If you want the patch for
yourself or more information contact Dave Cook: CPEEDY::COOK. If you need that
patch for a customer they will need to submit an IPMT case.

I don't think this is a server issue. All IRIS traces show that
the client doesn't send a ULOGOFF. So how do we know we should
    get rid of the share.

Paul only mentioned it as an info. message.

I think the problem is that the client has two sessions to the server: guest
(blank username) and the normal user both connected to the share. The use/d is
disconnecting the guest from the share but not the normal user.
