314.0. "Needs Reflection over Telnet & PW licensing only" by VMSNET::DMCFARLAND (still TurboMom[tm]...) Fri May 23 1997 16:06

I am writing this as a separate note, even though it is related to
    notes 146 and 308.

Customer having the known problems with Reflection/PW32.

Please tell me if he should be able to do the following:

    1. Use Reflection 5.2 over Telnet, as he has done previously.

    2. Install on WNT 4.0 PC *ONLY* the PW32 client license responder/
requester so he can obtain license and connect to PW v5 server
file & print services over TCP/IP.

    3. Have neither LAT nor DECnet on the PC.

    4. Reflection would work over Telnet and file and print connections
to PW v5 server over TCP/IP.

What I do not know is what *else* gets installed when PW licensing
is installed? Does the dratted DECIOCB stuff get installed? If so,
will this interfere with Reflection over Telnet?

If this is possible, and if he can get his current PW32 cleaned off
the system, how would he reinstall so that only the licensing (and
components needed by licensing) get installed?

    I appreciate your input...

Lots of stuff, including the entire Information Shelf.

Probably, but Licensing does not need it. You can avoid it
by using the stand-alone PATHWORKS Licensing kit (V1.4)
that was recently released. It does not install anything but
	Licensing.

	Probably.

    I would think not.

    PWTELNT talks over Microsoft's TCP/IP through Microsoft's
WINSOCK interface. As good as it is, I don't think
    Microsoft uses DECIOCB.... :-)

Without anything loaded from our kit except PWTELNT, DECTAL and
VT320 (assuming Microsoft's TCP/IP is loaded) you should be
able to connect to a host with VT320.

    John,

Where can the following be obtained for external use? I saw the
internal pointer, but is there a Web location where customers can
    download this?

With all due respect to the IS authors, it is seldom that I can
resolve support issues for customers by using IS...

This is why I appreciate the feedback from people in this forum.

    Thanx,
    Diane

Sorry, I'm just a lowly software engineer. I don't get to
make files available to customers. In the past the licensing
kit has been available through the "public patch search and
	download" service:

		http://www.service.digital.com:8031

I tried that and only found the old V1.3 kit.

I think your best bet is to ask the PATHWORKS 32 product
manager or the PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (NetWare) product
manager whoe doubles as the PATHWORKS Licensing product
manager. See note 3 for a list of product managers.

re: availability

The PATHWORKS Licensing Software Kit V1.4 ($10 US, QA-2CLAA-H8) shipped from SSB
on Friday, May 23rd.

I am still awaiting word on its availability from TIMA, but this should occur
in hours. Once the TIMA kit is available, it'll be posted in the location that
John referenced in the last reply. ...I'll try to post a note when it's soup.

We'll also provide a pointer on the PATHWORKS InfoCenter web page at

	http://www.digital.com/pathworks

In fact, we are going to provide a special area on that web site for lots of
licensing-related info and help.

Thanx for the info. I just gave the ftp location to my Reflection
    customer.

    Hoping for the best,
