| What version/who's version of LAT was your customer running
before PW32?

| Tom,
Excellent question! I will *assume* it was the LAT that comes
with Reflection (WRQ does supply its own LAT, doesn't it?)
Customer is on PDT. I will verify when he gets in that this
is the case. Does this have to be uninstalled or something?

308.3 | Reflections Pathworks 32 | VMSNET::FARLOW_J | | Thu May 22 1997 11:20 | 22 |
| Hi,
I also have another customer with the same problem. He has NT 4.0,SP2,
with the Kernel Hot Fix and Pathworks 32 and gets the DR Watson
application error with R2WIN.EXE. If he does not install Pathworks and
uses Reflections with Telnet it works fine.
They have DELL XPS 180 pc's with 3c509 cards.
I checked the WRQ website and found a Tech Support Article (2007) that
says they are currently working on support for Meridian SuperLAT under
NT 4.0.
I heard somewhere that our LAT is a port of the Meridian SuperLAT, is
that true?
If the above is true then we may have the same problems of not
working with NT 4.0.
Thanks in advance,
Jerry

Yes.

Err.. no. The problem is in the way Reflections interfaces with
our stuff. *WE* wrote the interface to our implemenation of LAT.
The fact their stuff doesn't interact correctly with our stuff
when our stuff came out after their stuff should not be surprising.
We've been in contact with WRQ. They are in the process of using
our DECTAL interface when talking to our components.
A wise move as far as I'm concerned.

| Jerry...thanx for the input! It's good not to feel like the Lone
Ranger.
Tom...thanx for the analysis. This gives me something to give back
to my caller. Could not reach him yesterday, so still not sure what
transport Reflection was using before PW32 was installed. It may
have been Telnet, like Jerry's caller...

308.6 | LAT HANGS PC | VMSNET::FARLOW_J | | Thu May 22 1997 13:09 | 14 |
| Hi Tom,
Since we are on the subject of Pathworks 32 LAT have you heard anything
about PC's hanging (required power off reboot) if left overnight or
unattend for sometime. The customer removes LAT and installs all the
rest of Pathworks and it works fine, problem with LAT?
We have checked the CMOS suspend feature which was not ON. These are
DELL XPS pentimum pro 180 pc's with 3c509 cards.
Any help would be appreciated, and thanks for the previous on
Reflections.

| Are you referring to the problem reported in note 268?
We have several CLDs on it.
I've been trying for the past 2 days to reproduce it but
could get it to fail only once.
We gave the customer new copies of DECTAL and PWIOCB32 and
apparently it happens less frequently.
It's certainly not happening very frequently on my machines.

308.8 | NT and lat | VMSNET::FARLOW_J | | Thu May 22 1997 16:29 | 13 |
| Hi Tom,
Does note 268 also affect pc's with NT 4.0, SP2, with Kernel Hot Fix
(DELL XPS 180 pc).
They have a terminal session via LAT going and leave for sometime or
overnight and the pc will be hung solid requiring a power off reboot.
They have the standard MS screen saver going and we checked cmos setups
for Suspend mode but did not find one (like the Gateways that have that
problem).

It sounds somewhat similar.

308.10 | Telnet, not LAT | VMSNET::DMCFARLAND | still TurboMom[tm]... | Fri May 23 1997 16:09 | 7 |
| Tom,
What about Reflection running over Telnet, not LAT? Does the
DECTAL issue apply?

| As mentioned in another note (by Jeff?) it depends whose Telnet
we're talking about.
For ours, I'd be surprised if Reflections could talk directly
to our PWTELNT without DECTAL. PWTELNT is freshly ported to
32 bits. The interface, by necessity, is new and slightly different.
It's silly for someone to code to our terminal protocols without
using the DECTAL interface. WRQ, to their credit, is changing
their emulators to use DECTAL.

308.12 | LAT hang | VMSNET::FARLOW_J | | Wed May 28 1997 12:12 | 6 |
| Hi Tom,
Is it possible to get the updated files mentioned in the previous
notes that help with the LAT hang problems.
|
308.13 | | THOLIN::TBAKER | The Spirit of Apathy | Wed May 28 1997 14:13 | 11 |
| DECTAL and PWTELNT haven't changed appreciatively since 7.0.
Changing these files won't help the Reflections problems.
What will help is when WRQ ships a Reflections product that
uses the DECTAL interface instead of trying to talk directly
to the transports.
They have asked us for help/suggestions in the past and we've
helped as much as we can. There's nothing else we can do.

| Message received and understood. Customer also understands it as
a problem with Reflection code. For now, he is going to install
just the PW licensing from the new 1.4 kit and try to run everything
over TCP/IP with no DECnet or LAT.
Thanx,
Diane
