293.0. "Can't Browse correctly with WIN95 and PW32" by GIDDAY::COOK (Matt Cook , CSC Sydney Australia) Wed May 14 1997 03:37

	G'day all,

Can someone please give me a sainity check. I have a
customer who has a PW v5.0d server with about 80 clients. Most of
the clients are WFW/PW using only the decnet transport , the connect
fine , and can browse both the domain and servers fine.

The w95 clients with PW32 using only the decnet transport can connect
to and map drives on the server fine, they can browse the server fine
	via the RUN command \\server.

If any w95 client double clicks on network neighborhood then he can not
see any machines, not even his own machine.

If I get the customer to add netbeui to his w95 client he can then still
do all above , as well in network neighborhood he can now see himself and
browse the domian but can't see anything because nothing else is running
	netbeui.

The WFW clients can see the VMS server as well as the w95 clients.

Any ideas, I can't reproduce this behaviour.

	Thanks,

	Matt

I think there was a specialist here (Atlanta) that had a cusotmer
with the same problem yesterday; I'll follow up to see what his
resolution was, if any.

To the engineers and/or anyone else who might know -- is there a way
with '95 to see information about the browser service? If it's
enabled (file & print sharing turned on and f&p propertied Advanced
tab's Browse Master property set to Enabled) any way to make sure
that it's bound to all the protocols? Both .0 and the questions I
was getting yesterday make it sound as though DECnet's NetBIOS
interface and the browser service aren't talking.

re .0
I have one customer with the similar configuration. The server is 5.0
ECO1.They have installed 3 PW32 clients on the Win95 with NetBEUI (not
sure) and DECnet (sure). The rest of PC's is WFW with DECnet only (PW6 ECO2
and the latest MS patches for vredir.386 and similar stuff). As I remember
I have seen full list of WFW clients on the WIN95. I am nearly sure that
none of the WFW clients run NetBEUI and DECnet simultaneously, which would
be the only way how to see the full list (There is at least one master
browser for each transport and they can be on different machines). I can
check it tommorow by phone.

re .1
I think that SHOW ASTAT (from PW6) kit should work either on the WIN95 side
or from WFW client. On the computer which is Master browser you can see
something like:

14 __MSBROWSE__ 01 ? Group 84h Registered

There is also Browser monitor on the NT40 server resource kit. It works
providing that DECnet is running on the NT machine.

more info to .2

I checked that customer can see all PCs running WFW a just PW6 DECnet on
the computer with WIN95 PW 7 and just DECnet.

no, turns out that they've not found any resolution either, sorry.
