285.0. "pwsock32 & sqlsrv_dll_addr error again" by KERNEL::BURNST () Thu May 08 1997 07:36

    Hi,
    A cust has a problem which where he is getting an error message from
    his oracle application of sqlsrv_dll_addr_err (2046)

    This was a known prob with pwsock32.dll in pw 95 v 1.0 and was fixed
    in the 1.0a relesae.

    Has this fix been reomved from pwsock32.dll that now ships with pw32.

    Can the cust use the patched version from 1.0a without problems.

The fix should not have been removed, as all CLD/IPMT/QAR fixes that were
incorporated into V1.0a, were part of v7.0... since it appears that this
bug was not, then either:

1) The bug "stopped" happening and no one bothered to figure out why, and
   now it is back
2) Someone removed the bugfix 'cause they didn't understand it, or it caused
   other problems... and they didn't fix it.
3) Another bug was added as a result of other problems being fixed.

So...

1) Refile an IPMT case with the "known problem" information
2) Have the customer continue using the PWSOCK32 from v1.0a, realizing that
   this is not supported, and may cause other problems in the system

Thanks,

Jeff

285.2pwsock32.dll 1.00.120 semms to workBOUGY::CACHINThu May 15 1997 07:3118
    Hello/Hi/bonjour

        The release of the pwsock32.dll supplied with the sbb kit of pw32
        is 1.00.123 and doesn't work with the ORACLE ODBC driver (2.20.00).
        Pw error -49 and Oracle error -2003.

        The customer replace the pwsock32.dll with the 1.00.120 supplied in
        the pww95 eco2 and all seems work correctly.

        Perheps you can try with the 1.00.120 pwsock32.dll release.

        I don't known if this problem has been soon reported and if a patch
        will be available.
