Hi all, My customer reported a problem which occurs on his PW 32 NT clients intermittently. After successfully obtaining both PWLMDOSCC06.00 and PWXXWINAT07.00 licenses from the license server SYDCON which is a cluster alias, the PW32 NT client sometimes fails to connect to the PW shares. After number of retries the client eventually connects and works fine untill the next time is restarted. The PW event log viewer shows the following messages when the error occurs: . . . 09:00:16 PNLR0003N: Loading license for "DEC-PWLMDOSCC06.00" from server "SYDCON",group "default" 09:00:16 PNLR0003N: Loading license for "DEC-PWXXWINAT07.00" from server "SYDCON",group "default" 09:00:40 PNLT0070W: Server "ECVAX0R0" sent a license with bad encryption 09:01:56 PNLT0070W: Server "ECVAX0R0" sent a license with bad encryption 09:03:09 PNLT0070W: Server "ECVAX0R0" sent a license with bad encryption . . . . After number of attempts to open a Word file that is located in a PW share the customer can eventualy succeed, and from then on all network connections work fine. This is registered in the PW event log viewer as: 09:10:08 PNLT0070W: Server "ECVAX0R0" sent a license with bad encryption 09:11:09 PNLT0070W: Server "ECVAX1R0" sent a license with bad encryption 09:12:15 PNLT0070W: Server "ECVAX0R0" sent a license with bad encryption 09:13:20 PNLT0070W: Server "ECVAX0R0" sent a license with bad encryption 09:14:25 PNLT0070W: Server "ECVAX0R0" sent a license with bad encryption 09:15:30 PNLT0003N: License "DEC-PWLMDOSCC06.00" presented to server "ECVAX0R0" 09:15:30 PNLT0003N: License "DEC-PWXXWINAT07.00" presented to server "ECVAX0R0" Note that ECVAX0 and ECVAX1 are two PW v5.0e eco1 servers comprising the cluster SYDCON. The problem has never been seen on PW DOS/Windows and PW 4.1b for NT 3.51 clients. The transports enabled on the PW 32 clients are DECnet Netbeui and IPX/SPX and on the PW servers - DECnet and Netbeui. Thank you in advance for your replies. Regards, Marjan CSC Sydney

09:10:08 PNLT0070W: Server "ECVAX0R0" sent a license with bad encryption That should be: "Server "<name>" sent a license request with bad encryption." This message can also occur when the request from the License Registrar is less than 4 bytes long. It is generally an indication of a problem at the server. Try restarting ECVAX0R0. If that does not help, install the latest release of the PATHWORKS Server.

John, Thank you for your reply and suggestion how to resolve this problem. The customer is already running the latest version of PW - v5.0e eco1.He reported the problem when he had PW v5.0c on his machine, but the upgrade didn't have any effects.Do you know why in the error message "Server "ECVAX0R0" sent a license request with bad encryption." the name of the server reads "ECVAX0R0" while in fact the name of it is "ECVAX0"? If it is a problem with the server end,why only PW32 clients are affected? Regards, Marjan

> The name of the server reads "ECVAX0R0" while in fact the name of it is > "ECVAX0"? The name displayed is whatever name the License Registrar uses. This is not the cause of the communication failure. |
