277.0. "2675873 to one and counting" by WOTVAX::SHARKEYA (LoginN - even makes the coffee@) Wed May 07 1997 13:19

    Interesting one with the license requester.....

    If you set the first two entries as 'not present' and add a third one
    and make it active, the license requester goes through a 10 second
    countdown for the first two 'blank' items before it requests the third
    one (which it gets).

    The solution is to replace the first one and delete the second.....

277.2Can you answer this one ?WOTVAX::SHARKEYALoginN - even makes the coffee@Thu May 08 1997 06:3719
    Ouch !

    OK - qanother one.

    Every time I start up Exhcnage or Outlook clients and invoke the
    dial-up networking, as soon as the modem gets through the license
    requestor starts up.

    BUT I ALREADY HAVE A LICENSE !. My portable normally sits on my home LAN
    and thats where I got my license from.

    The only way to stop it is to ctrl-alt-del and stop the app that way.

    Whats going on ?

    regards

re: .2

My guess...

It's trying to verify your license...just like it would when you reboot in a
LAN.

The requestor does 2 things:

	1) It will initially go out and get you the licenses you said you needed
	2) It will check (usually at reboot), that the licenses that you do have
	   have not been revoked by the License Server since you obtained them.

Revoking licenses on the License Server would not be very effective if the
client never knew...

I'm hoping that the code is now smart enough to check with the license server
only when you make WAN connections....but I may be extrapolating a bit much...

John?

Ahh - I see. I changed the entry in the control panel so it did not look
for licenses it did not already have and it is much better now.

It does all need tidying up a bit - maybe I should get a proper 'wishlist'
together sometime soon.

277.5Checking a LANA when it finds oneSPELNK::curlessFri May 09 1997 13:5118
>> I'm hoping that the code is now smart enough...

Nope, sorry John.

Client Licensing as designed way back when cannot decided if it has obtained
all the licenses required ... so it will continue to check every new
lana as it appears.

Might be able to disable this, but I doubt it.

We can solve the problem by:

1)  Tossing licensing
2) Designing it in a more sane way with MUCH LESS impact on the client
