273.0. "lotus notes and decnet pw32" by KAOFS::M_VALLEE (csc hull canada) Tue May 06 1997 11:23

lotus notes 4.0
nt 4.0 sp2
compaq proliant 2000
pw32 v7.0 running on the NT box
pw dos 5.1 eco8

Clients are running decnet only and going to the lotus server,in the morning
and at noon, the pc has a message of "remote server not responding".The lotus
notes console messages contain the following:

netbios name server receive the following error:this message does not conform
to server protocol requirements, client and server may be running incompatible
versions of the product.

the second message is :

network error on port lan1 network error due to transient network condition
or hardware failure.

The other thing is the only error in the NT event log that may have a impact
is:

DECCORE: the description for event (1) in source (deccore) could not be found,
it contains the following insertion strings, ITOT, DECITOT, can't find [
address-mapping] setion I.

The server is running decnet from pw32 v7.0 and the clients are 5.1 eco8
using dos and win 3.1.The DECCORE message only appears in the log file after
they reboot the system.

Anybody known what the deccore message means, and are there any
    incompatibilities with lotus notes pw32?

The DECCORE message has no meaning in this context... it is a report of
missing message... however DECITOT was not shipped in V7.0, so... there is
nothing.

What does the DECLOG message log show? Was the customer a beta test for
PW32? If so, did they follow the beta uninstall instructions then install
the shipping version?

    Mark,
not sure if this still applies, but Lotus Notes used to require that
netbeui be assigned as LANA 0. You mention a DECnet only client
configuration, so maybe you can ask customer to turn on Netbeui and
    give it a shot.
