Before you CLD/IPMT it... check to make sure that SP2 from January or later,
as Microsoft shipped two service packs with the SP2 name... one that does
not work (december timeframe) and one that does (january or so).
If in doubt, download the latest from Microsoft.
Jeff (currently running SP2 january edition with no problems)

I'm suspicious of the above information. After a fresh installation of
NT 4.0, you should have build 1381 with no mention of SP1. If you have
SP1 identified, then you must have done a reinstallation/upgrade with
the base level NT 4.0. The SP1 identifier doesn't seem to go away even
though none of the service pack bits should have survived the
reinstallation.
Not really relevant to your SP2 discussion, but I thought I'd mention
it anyway.

I asked customer if the service pack they are using (on the network) was
copied from the CD (which should be O.K.). They confirmed that. I will
check dates again.

The information is correct. Seems that Microsoft now distributes
workstation kit with SP1 included. It was fresh installation of NT4.0
workstation.
More info:
When I was at customer site I didn't have an access to the VMS servers.
Today I went quickly through P5IFT conference and it seems that the error
could be related to OVMS PATHWORKS 5.0E ECO1 error (multiple session from
NT4.0 client-see notes 4257, 4278 in the P5IFT conference and "Phantom
sessions with NT 4.0" in the Tima Stars). If it is this type of error it's
interesting that it appears only with SP2. I was not able to find
information which NT 4.0 clients (SP version) are involved in the multiple
session scenario.
If time allow I will check the session status on the PATHWORKS server from
the both clients at customer site (fortunately still test environment with
NT 4.0 clients).

| Comments on the Service Pack 1 release:
Microsoft did build a Service Pack 1 remastered Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM
almost immediately after Service Pack 1 was created in the U.S. (The
fixes in SP 1 are pretty much mandatory.) This build of the CD-ROM
exists, but doesn't seem to be widespread... at least in the U.S.
(I still get the original build when ordering from Stream.)

| I believe the NT 4.0 with SP1 "pre-applied" CD has been distributed
at least to MSDN subscribers to replace the vanilla NT CD. At least I
got it that way here (Europe).
