re: .0 A customer wants to connect a windows 3.11 pc to a microvax running ovms. pw32 does not support w 3.11 according to the spd, but the question is whether the kit contains older sw which would do the job? Kevin, Firstly, the answer is, "Yes, you can connect DOS, Windows 3.x, Macintosh, OS/2, Windows 95, and Windows NT clients to a MicroVAX running OpenVMS". However, in order to answer your real question, "How do I connect...", you need to be more specific. What do you mean by "connect"? a. Do you want to map a drive or define a connected printer as your PC printer? b. Do you simply need Terminal emulation? c. Do you need DECnet, LAT, or some other transport not included with WfW/Windows 3.11? d. How many PC's and how many OpenVMS systems are involved? Please tell us more and we'll tell you how an what to buy. John

...and in some of those cases, the answer will be "PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows v6.0", about which you can read in the NOTED::PWDOSWINV5 Notesfile.

Using PATHWORKS V6.0 for DOS/Windows, it has been recently verified that you can map shares to a Win NT server running PW32. (i.e. NET USE X: etc. or MAP DRIVE ...) Various v6.0 configurations running WFW or Win 3.x can see and use the Win NT server running PW32. Marsha T. |
