111.0. "Support thai?" by TLAV01::PIPHOB () Tue Feb 04 1997 05:09

    Hello,

I would like to know the feature of pathworks 7.0. Can the pathworks
7.0 support Thai? Because there are many customers in Thailand using
    pathworks.

    Best Regards,

If the question is:
Is there a Thai version of PATHWORKS 32 ? The answer is: no. Contact
Product Management if you want one.

If the question is:
Does the English version of PATHWORKS 32 work on a Thai system ? then
I don't know, sorry.

Are they using PATHWORKS 6.0 and/or PATHWORKS for Windows 95 1.0?
If so, give PATHWORKS 32 7.0 a try, it should work at the connectivity
level, I think.

However, at the application level (VT320, PowerTerm, eXcursion, NFTW)
you won't get much, since neither of these applications know how to
process your double-byte language. In addition, all of these applications
talk to some hosts that also need to be aware of the language, so the
client side is only a part of a much larger problem.

The long-term plan for PowerTerm is to add support to Asian languages,
starting with Japanese. This should not be too hard, since DIGITAL already
has some experience with teh VT382 emulator, for example, which is included
in the PATHWORKS/Japanese client kits.

Yes, people need to talk to product management and state their I18N/L10N
requirements. There is very little information today related to what
international markets really need.

Did Microsoft solve all your problems by creating 30, maybe more, versions
of W95 and (somewhat fewer) of WNT?

Should DIGITAL continue to bother with I18N/L10N? Can we justify the
investment? If the countries fund it, it may happen, otherwise, don't
count on it.

From an army of several hundred people covering this area only a few years
ago, we are down to a handful of people. At the end of FY97 the number will
be zero, I believe.

Slobodan
