1989.0. "routing and gated.conf" by SNOFS1::NANCARROW () Fri Jun 06 1997 04:07
My customer has two router connections on the internet side of the
firewall, one going to the ISP and the other to a third party, all static
routed.
What the customer wants to do is have another link come in if
the third party link dies due to Telecom failure or some other cause,
however Iam having problems working out the best method. I believe it
is possible within the gated.conf file to specify a change of route
using the preference method and what I intend to do is turn on RIP on
the Internet side to listen for a route update. I will set the
preference level for RIP to be higher than static and when a RIP
broadcast comes through indicating an alternate route for that subnet
what should happen is the new route should take over until the RIP
brodcasts cease to contain the new route.
If anybody has a better way I would appreciate some help also if anybody
can help with the gated.conf scripting it would also help as the manual
I have seems to be different to the actual language used in the Digital
Unix version of gated.conf.
