1968.0. "questions on version 3 " by SNOFS1::NANCARROW () Thu May 22 1997 00:35

     Is the firewall Version 3 an upgrade path or re-install ??
            if both then which is advised ??

        Is there any affect on the screend operation ??
        How does the username password authentication work for WWW access??
        Is there any reporting functions available for a persons WWW
    utilisation
        given the fact that username password is now supported ??
        Does the tunnelling for remote management require the purchase of
        additional software for the remote station ??
        Mike N.

1968.5no upgradeSNOFS1::stylia.sno.dec.com::snov14::stylianouaMon Jun 02 1997 01:0310
AFter looking at the admin guide for the unix firewall
there seems to be no real upgrade.

Anyway, the way I understand it to install the new tunneling
remote mangement feature the tunnel must be installed first, ie
prior to the firewall. This tells me there is no upgrade.

Can someone please confirm.

1968.6tunnel config not saved by eval softwarePRMS00::COLEMon Jun 02 1997 09:2218
    re .5

    The tunnel is installed first (but the kernel is not rebuilt) so the
    tunnel driver bits will be present when the kernel is rebuilt after
    the firewall bits are installed. The firewall GUI configures the
    tunnel via the REMOTE MANAGEMENT menu item - you don't have to
    configure the tunnel via tunman.

    Be aware that if you are running the evaluation copy of the firewall
    software that the remote management (tunnel config info) is not
    saved in the normal save-set procedure, so if you install the
    production software and restore the configuration, you won't have
    remote management. I claim it is a bug, AV claims 'not supported
    by the eval software'.
