1926.0. "V3 for BSD ?" by BRSVMS::REMANS () Sun Apr 20 1997 16:59

Will the AltaVista Firewall V3 also be available for the BSD platform. If so
when and will it have the same features as the UNIX version ?

1926.1Low demand for BSDNNTPD::"[email protected]"timMon Apr 21 1997 07:408
This is currently under debate as there has been
low sales of the firewall on this platform. It would
appear that NT is going to dominate.

Have you seen may requests for BSD ?

Well...

I am implementing a (internal) solution in an Intranet environment, whose
requirements are rather different than the classical "Trusted Internal Lan
connected to an Hostile Internet". V2, as configurable with the GUI, is very
oriented in this direction.

We choose the BSD based solution, because it combined a low cost platform with
the versatility given by screend. When I read .-1, I'm wondering if we did the
good choice...Maybe with V3, the NT solution will give enough flexibility ?
Then we'll maybe have to migrate ?

1926.3Is it going to exist a V3 in BSD or not ???VAXRIO::MAURICIOFertile PectusFri May 02 1997 17:326
    We are also pursuing an opportunity where the customer would like to
    have the same functionality of AV Firewall 97 for DUNIX on a cheaper
    platform (read: Compaq Intel). AV Firewall 97 for WNT simply won't do.
    There isn't enough flexibility in it to work "behind the scenes" ...

1926.4There is NO AFWBSDI V3.0!CHEFS::16.37.11.61::PITTGone with the winsock ...Mon May 12 1997 10:1915
We had received an order for AFWBSDI for a bank in London.
This was to be the first of about 20 in their sites around
the world. We tried to put in V2.1 as an interim, still
believing that there would be a V3.0. It wouldn't work on
the Compaq PCs that the customer wanted to use.

On requesting assistance from Galway, they tried hard, but
we still couldn't get it working. They also told us that
there will not be an AFWBSDI V3.0.

As a result, tomorrow we install Raptor Eagle for the
customer. We are very lucky to have escaped from this
debacle without being hung drawn and quartered!
