Hi I have installed AFWNT 1.1. When using the TELNET proxy from an internal pc I get logged out randomly. When I telnet back to the machine my process is still running and I can reconnect to it(the server is a VMS box). This discounts any type of program that searches for idle processes. Sometime I can telnet for a couple of mins or hrs before the telnet session dies. Any ideas? Andrew Stylianou

Registry entry is set to 900s of idle time. I changed it to a lot more. Andrew S | |||||

This particular customer was pretty upset about telnet sessions dropping out. The users were complaining to the higher ups, and there were calls for the firewall to be removed, and other dire things. We went to have a look, and after some investigation ("hmm, it only drops out after 15 minutes of no usage"), some registry hunting found the Timeout key with a fairly obvious value of 900. Increasing this solved the telnet dropout problem. Why isn't this documented anywhere? If it is, where? We were on the verge of installing UNIX on this system to try and get round this problem: in fact, our visit was delayed by some days because we needed to get the right UNIX hardware, thus causing the users more pain. Does anybody care? PJDM |
