There have, I believe, been a number of rumours about DNS in WNT V4 being "not good". I have a customer who is about to set up his internal DNS, and wants to use WNT V4. I will then install a firewall that uses hidden DNS. Given that a failure of the internal DNS server would cause all lookups at the firewall to fail - in effect this means that the firewall would go down - what should I advise him? Can anyone tell me what it is that is a problem with DNS in WNT V4? Or is it just that people don't like Bill Gates? T

Hi Tony, >>There have, I believe, been a number of rumours about >>DNS in WNT V4 being "not good" You'll need to be more specific - there have, I beleive been several patches - and you can probably find out the latest status - if you ask the right questions, at: "[email protected]" - (courtesy of March TECHnet) Simon | |||||

Hi Tony I have installed dns on nt 4.0. A number of times I have decided to get it off the machine for whatever reason or to econfigure. When I did this the machine did not play the game and I had to reinstall tcp/ip before the machine would operate correctly again. I have 2 customers who have had similar situations. Maybe I and them have some something wrong - like try to deinstall dns - who knows. I guess the advice is use it but beware and whatever you do don't install it on a machine that is doing other things. Andrew Stylianou |
