1882.0. "AFWNT - ftp-gw can't get data connection." by MEOC02::JANKOWSKI () Thu Mar 20 1997 04:39

On AFWNT V1.1 (WNT V4.0, Intel) I encountered the following problem:

ftp-gw is configured and works to most hosts.

However, to one particular host (a Sun Sparcstation, Solaris V2.4) the
    following happens:

Command (control) connection is established from port random
on the ftp-gw to port 21 on the Sun.
This means that the client does not use the PASSV method. So far so good.
Correct prompt is then produced on the client screen.
However when attempting to do any operation that involves data transfer
I receive a message to the effect that a data connection cannot be
established. Note that this message comes with no noticeable
delay so this is not a filtering or similar timeout issue.

We checked (by setting the router in debug mode) that no packets are
ever received from the expected port 20 on the Sun.

Also note that if we connect from the same firewall to the Sun
using just standard WNT V4.0 ftp client then everything is fine.
This client also does not use the PASSV option.
So this is for sure not a filtering issue.

We also tried an ftp client from a Digital Unix machine and it works
    the same way.

    The Sun name is sysp.dce.vic.gov.au.
I can obtain a (tomorrow) a test ftp account on it if needed to
    reproduce the problem.

Is this a known problem? Is there a patch?

    Thanks and regards,

This is not one that we have seen. Can you get us a test account?

Thanks,
