1871.0. "How to redirect all automatic mail generated by AFWU V2.1" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Sebastian Llsdorf) Mon Mar 17 1997 08:02

Hi,

some customers don't want *any* automatic firewall mail go to the user root.
To save time, I use to edit some files in /usr/dfws/config then.

Two things are unclear to me:

1.)
I understand the meaning of event.action and report.conf .

But "root" is also found in report.recp and firewall.conf (for dfw.mail)
Can I look at these entries somewhere on the GUI?
What are these values exactly used for?

2.)
Having changed all that, there is still some mail going to root which is
generated by cron jobs. How can I redirect that to another recipient?

Thanks,
Sebastian

This is discussed elsewhere in this notesfile ... as usually ...

A cron job that runs as root will always mail to root if it
has a problem. You can't change that. However, you can munge
sendmail.cf so that any mail addressed simply to root (i.e. without
an @ in the address) will go to someone else instead.

1871.2... and the 2 filesNETRIX::"[email protected]"Sebastian LlsdorfThu Mar 20 1997 09:3828
Thanks for your hint about cron mail, Tony.

Concerning the 2 files I asked for:

/usr/dfws/config/report.recp

I found that you can change it from the GUI at "Customize Mail Reports",
"Default Mail Recipient(s)". When you click on "Usage Reports", "Mail Report",

the report is mailed to that recipient.

It is strange that using the GUI changes the file from its factory-installed
default line 'root' into 'sendto="somebody"'. Maybe the factory default is
somewhat terse; at least it is misleading people like me using the editor.
I'm sure this is for security reasons as ususal ;-)

/usr/dfws/config/firewall.conf

I still have no idea what 'dfw.mail' is used for and how it can be changed
on the GUI.

One more thing: In firewall.conf there is an entry 'reports.recipents'.
Changing that doesn't seem to have any effect. There isn't a chksumfail
alarm when pressing "Customize Mail Reports" either.
