My customer has VMS and WNT V3.51 environment. I need to run internal DNS server on something. The WNT servers have at the moment MS beta DNS. This is very flaky of course. What other options do I have? Can I try to copy the AFWNT DNS to the internal NT servers? If so how do I do it? Is ther a better version of DNS for WNT V3.51 than the beta one that I can install? Chris, You are right about a flaky 3.51 dns, and we've had some problems with the dns included in the 4.0 server (predominantly gui and user error problems, but some of the user problems resulted in crashes etc). The dns included in the firewall kit is not licensed to be on the internal server. You mentioned that this is a VMS shop... could you put the dns server there? If not, you could use MetaInfo's dns, or FBLI also had a dns server available. ScottE [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]
1869.2 | DNS V2.1 from MetaInfo is OK. | MEOC02::JANKOWSKI | Wed Mar 19 1997 05:04 | 14
My customer decided to go with MetaInfo DNS (the same that the AFWNT uses). Current version is V2.1 and can be found at http://www.metainfo.com/. The vendor offers 30 day trial. The price is about $400 I am told. We installed it and it works. Thanks for the pointers. Regards, Chris Jankowski Melbourne Australia

The one at http://www.software.com/ is a port of BIND. It works great, and is freeware. Why waste $400? PJDM |
