1854.0. "Need Log files" by GENIE::MUKHERJEE () Tue Mar 11 1997 06:21

Can someone help me please. We are trying to write some utils to analyze and report on log files.

Anyone have some log files with various functions tested? What I mean is that we could use sample logs from both
NT and UNIX based AV Firewalls in which their are bi-directional connections and a variety of application proxies
tested.

Please mail the logs to me at [email protected]

Also, when we have some items written, I will post here, in case it may help some of you.

BTW - are there some sources wherewe could find some tools that analyse the log files already? Where?

Thanks,
Arjo

Read this notesfile, and you'll find several things that people
(including myself) have written and posted. I would suggest
(once again!) that you acquaint yourself with the AltaVista Search
Engine for notes, and ask it your question. You will find
answers!

(Am I the only one to be starting to get fed up with people
asking for information on this notesfile, when it's already
posted on this notesfile? Or perhaps I just got out of the
wrong side of the bed this morning?)

Never mind, it happens in all the conferences. People these days seem to think
that Usenet is the be all and end all of conferencing, and don't realise that
there are places where answers hang around for more than three days.

Sort of like those people that think that UNIX is best at everything because
in many ways it's better than DOS, and they've never heard of OpenVMS. 8-)

(I never get out of the wrong side of the bed; I just stay cynical. \-)

Another answer for .0 is to use some initiative and go looking. Yahoo is an
excellent source of organised information where you will almost certainly find
log file analysis tools.
