I have just installed the AFW NT v1.1 on NT 4.0. The situation is that the firewall can sometimes ping to an internal host and sometimes not. Also, the internal hosts can sometimes ping to the firewall and sometimes not. The internal hosts are unix and win 95 machines. this is really strange. Any suggestions. Andrew Stylianou

Andrew, This is unusual! You didn't mention if you are able to ping by address. If so, then you'll want to focus on dns. There must be some kind of mis-configuration which is causing sporadic timeouts (it may be cacheing information at other times that you try). Use nslookup (in \dfw\etc) as your diagnostic tool on the firewall. If you can't ping by address, then I'd think you have a physicial connectivity problem. ScottE [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] |
