I have a desire to monitor our INTERNET connectivity from a management
station on the clean side of the firewall. Is there anyway to monitor
this by say allowing an ICMP poll through the firewall to our ISP for
example or using snmp management from the router through. The only
secure way I can think of is to get the firewall to ping the ISP and
somehow get a status back to the management station by ftp or mail.
Iam open to ideas.

Mike Using screend you can open holes to allow snmp through like pings, traceroutes etc. I have done this where a customer used HPOpenView that allowed them to monitor their net and the the isp link. AS

Who needs research? ICMP is ICMP (man screend will tell you how to allow specific ICMP types through), and /etc/services will tell you which ports SNMP uses. PJDM
